SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team hosted Northland in a non-conference affair at Tria Rink on Friday night. The Pipers got points from nine individuals en route to a 4-1 decision over the Lumberjacks.
Hamline improves to 2-2, while Northland falls to 0-4-1.

A commanding 12-5 advantage in shots was the case for Hamline throughout the opening frame, where they took their first lead at 17:13 courtesy of Jackson Wille. Freshman Liam Guerin capitalized on his first collegiate goal at 16:20 of the second period. That proved to be the lone goal of the second frame, which gave the Pipers a 2-0 edge heading into the third.
Both teams combined for a whopping eight penalties in the third frame, five of which were assessed to Hamline. Each team tallied a power-play goal, and Northland did the honors thanks to Ben Varga at 5:55 of the frame that narrowed their deficit to 2-1.
It was the ignition Hamline needed as they ended the game with two unanswered goals behind Andrew Erwin on the power play at 10:58, and Derek Becklin at 18:17 that pushed their lead to 4-1.
Wille and Erwin finished the game with a goal and an assist each. Dallas Duckson tallied two assists.
Northland held a 30-27 edge in shots. Kevin Lake made 29 saves between the pipes for Hamline, while Viktor Wennberg stopped 23 shots for the Lumberjacks.
The Pipers will host UW-River Falls tomorrow, Saturday, November 12 at 5 p.m.
