Pipers Hold On For 6-5 Victory Over Falcons

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team hosted UW-River Falls on the backend of their two-game weekend home swing on Saturday night. The Pipers were outshot by a 2:1 margin, but that didn't stop them from storming to a 5-1 third-period lead, which gave them enough cushion in a 6-5 decision.

The Pipers improve to 3-2, while UW-River Falls drops to 3-3.

The Falcons capitalized off the bat courtesy of Billy Feczko at 2:51 of the first period, which gave them a 1-0 cushion. It was the ignition Hamline needed as they strung together five goals over the next two frames. Two goals from Brandon Bissett, and one each from Ike Taraszewski, Andrew Erwin and Sam Dabrowski gave them a 5-1 cushion at 7:59 of the third period.

A penalty-laden third period resulted in nine total infractions, six of which were called on the Pipers. The Falcons netted three power play goals down the stretch, where they outscored Hamline 4-1 over the final 11:00 of play to narrow their deficit to 6-5. Their final tally occurred at 19:22 of the third period courtesy of Connor McGrath. Hamline's lone goal in that time frame belonged to Dabrowski at 15:42 of the third.

Dabrowski led Hamline with two goals and one assist, while Bissett netted a pair of goals.

The Falcons went 3-for-4 on the power play, and outshot Hamline 42-20.

Kevin Lake made 37 saves in the goaltending win, while Dysen Skinner stopped 13 shots for UW-River Falls.

Hamline will travel to St. Olaf on Friday, November 18 for a 7 p.m. game.
