SAINT PAUL, MINN- The Hamline University men's hockey team closed out their series against St. Olaf Saturday night at TRIA Rink. The Oles used a couple of late goals to pull away from the Pipers to pick up the 3-1 win.
The loss will drop the Pipers to 3-4 (1-3 MIAC), while St. Olaf will move to 5-1-1 (3-1 MIAC) with the win.
St. Olaf 3Â Hamline 1Â
The matchup started as an absolute slugfest with each team deep in the second period looking for their first goal. The Oles were able to break the seal first with a goal at the 17:26 mark of the second period from Ashton Altmann off of an assist from Connor Kalthoff and Evan Shoemaker to give them a 1-0 lead heading into the final frame. The Pipers fought back at the 11:08 point with
Sebastien Vaillancourt finding the back of the net, with help from
Ryan Brandt and
Brandon Bissett that made the score 1-1. The Oles were able to respond later in the period with a goal from Matthew Pointer at the 14:21 mark to make things 2-1. St. Olaf tacked on to this lead late with an empty net goal from Connor Kalthoff in the final minutes, which widened the score to 3-1.
Sean Walsh and Johnathon Panisa also recorded an assist for the Oles.
St. Olaf outshot the Pipers 35-25, with
Kevin Lake in goal for the Pipers posting 32 saves in the loss. For St. Olaf, Lukas Haugen picked up the win recording 24 saves.
The Pipers are playing next Tuesday, November 22 at 7 p.m. as they host Concordia (Minn.).
