Pipers Blow Out St. Mary’s in MIAC Playoff Opener

ST. PAUL, MINN- The Hamline University men's basketball team hosted St. Mary's Saturday in the first round of the MIAC playoffs. The Pipers shot just under 60% on the day as the game was never in doubt rolling past the Cardinals 89-64. In their final home game seniors Cooper Berg and Jake Larson led the way with fantastic performances to move them to the quarterfinals against St. John's.

The win Improves the Pipers record to 10-15, while St. Mary's will finish the season with a record of 8-16.

HAMLINE 89 ST. MARY'S 64

Hamline jumped ahead early in the first half and never fell behind going up 20-8 just over 7 minutes into the game hitting 4 3pt FG's in that span. The Pipers continued their scorching shooting the rest of the half hitting 68% from the field in the period and connecting on 8-13 3pt FGs.

The Pipers continued to grow out their lead in the second half as they finished the game hitting 13-23 from 3. The Cardinals managed a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 9, but it never got closer than that as the Pipers marched to their largest victory of the season.

Cooper Berg led the charge for the Pipers scoring 23 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, Jake Larson was sensational as well scoring 19 points and added 5 assists and 5 boards. Conner Krenos and Jake Veldman hit double figures as well with 14 and 12 points.

St. Mary's was led by Raheem Anthony's 15 points and was helped by Zach Kjeseth with 13 points and Cameron Mallory with 11.

Hamline will continue on in the playoffs, traveling to take on St. John's Tuesday, February 22 at 7 p.m.
