MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team opened their 2022 campaign with a neutral-site bout against second-year varsity program UW-Eau Claire at the Augsburg Dome on Saturday night. Taryn Leonard's six goals wasn't enough for the Pipers in their 12-9 loss to the Blugolds.
The Pipers fall to 0-1, while the Blugolds improve to 1-0.

The Pipers failed to attain a lead in a contest that saw them outshot 34-26. Leonard's six-goal game consisted of one woman-up, and one woman-down tally along with a game-high 14 shots and five draw controls. Maria Lewis contributed a two-goal game for Hamline, while teammate Maitland Luksan added a goal and a team-best four caused turnovers.
Pipers goalie Justine Case made nine saves, while her counterpart Alexandria Shea stopped 10 shots for the Blugolds. Becky Goetsch paced UW-Eau Claire with four goals.
Hamline will make the short trip to Northwestern (Minn.) on Thursday, March 3 for a 6 p.m. game time.
