LAKEVILLE, MINN.—The Hamline University men's tennis team opened their spring season with a neutral-site mach against Bethany Lutheran in Lakeville on Sunday. The Pipers cruised to a 6-3 victory.
Hamline improves to 1-2, while Bethany Lutheran falls to 1-1.
"Terrific clutch doubles play at No. 1 and No. 2 helped us clinch a 6-3 win," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. " Captains Sam Thompson and Sean Le both gutted out third-set tiebreak wins to lead us in singles. Sophomore Elijah Krause dominated at No. 4 singles."
Hamline 6, Bethany Lutheran 3
Hamline swept doubles play behind victories from Nazeer Robinson/Sam Thompson (No. 1), Elijah Krause/Isaac Hultberg (No. 2), and Sean Le/Surprise Taylor (No. 3).
Thompson continued his dominate day with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 win in No. 2 singles. The bottom of Hamline's singles lineup prevailed behind Sean Le's 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 win in the No. 5 slot, and Krause's 6-3, 6-1 thumping in the No. 4 position.
The Pipers will open MIAC play at home against St. Scholastica on Saturday, February 19 at 11 a.m.
