MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team faced Northwestern (Minn.) in a rare Monday-afternoon non-conference bout at the Augsburg Dome. The Pipers cruised to their first victory of the season with an 11-9 decision over the Eagles.
Hamline improves to 1-2, while Northwestern (Minn.) falls to 0-3.

The Eagles' lone lead of the contest occurred off the bat courtesy of Samantha Wiebold with 12:45 left in the first quarter, which made the score 1-0. A pair of goals each from Corinne Cochran and Taryn Leonard engineered a 4-0 Pipers run that resulted in a 4-1 lead with 1:38 left in the opening frame. Hamline held onto the lead for good despite Northwestern (Minn.) cutting their deficit to one goal on four more occasions.
Leonard paced Hamline with 10 draw controls, three goals, and a pair of caused turnovers. Maitland Luksan, Maria Lewis, and Cochran each netted two goals for the Pipers. Michaela Arnold notched a team-leading four ground balls for Hamline, who outshot Northwestern 25-22. Samantha Wiebold tallied a game-high five goals for the Eagles.
Hamline goalie Justine Case made six saves, while her counterpart Brittany Clark stopped four shots for Northwestern (Minn.).
The Pipers will embark on the west coast on Wednesday, March 16 at George Fox (Ore.) for a 6 p.m. (PT) game time.
