Hamline University head football coach
Chip Taylor has announced the addition of
Michael Harris to the coaching staff. He will work with the Pipers offensive line.
"I am thrilled to be starting the next chapter of my football coaching career at Hamline University," said Harris. "It's exciting to join Minnesota's first university and be a part of a long-respected football program where I will be bringing with me five years of NFL playing experience, four years of coaching experience and most importantly, consistency and a commitment to excellence to every single player and colleague. After meeting with head coach,
Chip Taylor and his staff, and talking with President Miller, it was clear Hamline's values of creating community driven leaders on and off the field align with my goals as a coach and I can't wait to be a servant leader for a winning team! Go Pipers!"
Harris kicked-off his collegiate coaching career at MIAC rival Macalester, where he spent the previous three seasons working with the offensive line. Prior to Macalester, Harris spent a season coaching the offensive line at Hopkins High School (Minn.).
The Duarte, California native was a three-year starter for the UCLA Bruins, finishing with 42 career starts as an offensive lineman. From there, Harris was signed by the San Diego Chargers in 2012 before being picked up by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. In 2015, Harris started all 16 games for the Vikings when the team went on to win the NFC North title. Harris remains involved with the NFL as he was hired as the NFL uniform inspector for Vikings' home games in 2019.
He obtained a bachelor of arts degree in history from UCLA in 2011.
