SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The 2022 season opener pitted the Hamline University women's soccer team at Pat Paterson Field against WIAC foe UW-Stout on Thursday evening. All three goals occurred within the opening six minutes. The Pipers dug back from an early 1-0 deficit as they buried their first two shots of the game behind Maya Dempsey in the fourth minute, and Carin Currier in the sixth minute en route to a 2-1 victory.
The win marks Michael Prunty's first as head coach.
The Pipers improve to 1-0, while UW-Stout falls to 0-1.

The game's first shot found the back of the net courtesy of Caylee Boone, who flicked one from 20 yards out 3:11 into the contest to give Stout a 1-0 edge. That advantage was short-lived as Maya Dempsey took a feed from Liana Woo and finished in front of the net just :04 later to knot the game at 1-1. Carin Currier closed the game's scoring with a shot from 35 yards back to give Hamline a 2-1 edge.
The Pipers outshot UW-Stout 17-15. Lauren Sicora played the first 45:00 in net for Hamline, before Ava Braun came in for the final 45:00. The duo combined for three saves, while Julie McNamar stopped four shots for the Blue Devils.
UW-Stout utilized 24 players in the contest.
The Pipers will travel to UW-Superior on Sunday, September 4. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
