DAVENPORT, IOWA—The Hamline University women's tennis team's 2022-23 season opener pitted them at NAIA foe St. Ambrose University on Saturday, where they dropped a 6-3 decision.
The Pipers begin their campaign 0-1, while the Fighting Bees move to 3-3 on the season.
St. Ambrose 6, Hamline 3
Sydney Hubbard carried Hamline on her shoulders as she accounted for two-of-three wins. She along with Christine Muller picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Muller built on that momentum with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. Those marked Muller's first collegiate victories.
The No. 5 position resulted in a 6-4, 6-1 victory for Hubbard. The Pipers almost prevailed at No. 1 singles courtesy of Ashley Pitzen's 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 nail-biting loss.
The Pipers will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 18 at Dubuque. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
