Royals Comeback From Early Deficit to Defeat Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team welcomed Bethel to Pat Paterson Field for 2022 Homecoming on Saturday afternoon, where they dropped a 4-1 decision.

The Pipers fall to 2-6, 0-3 MIAC, while Bethel improves to 5-3, 1-1 MIAC.

The first half was evenly fought as Bethel held a 9-7 edge in shots. It was the Pipers who struck first courtesy of Robert Cooper in the 16th minute that made the score 1-0. It was the ignition Bethel needed as they outshot Hamline 21-9 from that point forward. It resulted in goals from Dylan Magistad in the 25th minute, Keegan Mellema in the 48th, Matthias Caspari in the 71st, and Isaac Howell in the 80th to make the score 4-1. Youssef Abdallah finished the contest with two assists for Bethel.

The Royals out shot Hamline 25-13 in the contest. The Pipers were victim of 1-of-2 yellow cards called in the contest.

Ethan Schauer made six saves in the complete-game loss in net for Hamline, while Juan Valdivia Cortes stopped nine shots in goal for Bethel.

The Pipers will travel to Simpson for a non-conference match in Indianola, Iowa on Tuesday, September 27 at 5 p.m.
