Pipers Prevail With 1-0 Victory Over Wildcats

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's soccer team made the short trek to St. Catherine for a Tuesday-afternoon MIAC bout. Sydni Thompson's goal in the 59th minute, along with 13 saves in net from Lauren Sicora propelled the Pipers to a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats. This marks Hamline's first winning decision over St. Catherine since September 28, 2013, when they edged them 2-1.

Hamline's first MIAC win of the season gives them a 2-3-4, 1-2-1 MIAC record, while defending MIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion St. Catherine falls to 4-3-2, 1-1-1 MIAC.

The Pipers' lone shot of the second half was all they needed to secure the victory. Thompson took the ball down the left side 20 yards away from the goal, where she took a shot that fooled the Wildcats goalkeeper and found the right side of the net to make the score 1-0 in the 59th minute

St. Catherine out shot Hamline 23-4, but Lauren Sicora was there to stop 13 shots en route to her third shutout of the season. Wildcats goalkeeper Kate Praetz made two saves over 70:49 of work.

The Pipers will make the short drive to Macalester on Saturday, October 1 at 1 p.m.
