SAINT PAUL, MINN- The Hamline University men's basketball team welcomed their rivals from down the road when they matched up with Macalester Wednesday night. The Pipers came out on top of this one using a fast early start to separate themselves and finishing off the win 73-57.
The Pipers will improve to 9-4 (5-3 MIAC) with the win, the Scots will drop to 8-4 (5-3 MIAC).

The Pipers got the upper hand early in this matchup of Snelling Ave. rivals using stifling defense to grow their lead to as much as 20 in the first half. The Scots shot just 25% from the field in the first half and the Pipers took advantage finishing with a 36-20 lead. Macalester did their best to cut into the lead in the second half but the Pipers always found an answer, even as the Scots got the lead down to nine with eight minutes to go. The Pipers quickly responded with a 13-3 run to give them room to cruise to a comfortable 73-57 victory over the Scots.
The Pipers were led by a sensational 21 points and 21 rebounds from
Austin Holt. He was helped by another 20-point performance by
Bradley Cimperman, as well as
Mick Wherley's 17 points and
Sam Hoffman's 11.
Leading the Scots was Caleb Williams with 21 points as well as Colby Gold with 17 points.
The Pipers will be in action again when they host Concordia (Minn.) on Saturday, December 14 at 1 p.m.
