Four Late Unanswered Goals Doom Pipers

ST. CLOUD, MINN.—A rare Thursday-night MIAC bout was on tap for the Hamline University men's hockey team, as they squared-off against Saint John's (Minn.) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The Johnnies dug themselves out of a 3-2 deficit with four unanswered goals within the final eight minutes of the contest, which powered them to a 6-3 victory over the Pipers.

Hamline falls to 8-7-1, 1-6-0 MIAC, while Saint John's improves to 10-6-2, 6-2-1 MIAC.

Despite being outshot 32-15 over the opening 40:00, the Pipers managed a 3-2 lead after the second intermission thanks to a perfect two-for-two power play figure in the contest.

Mason Campbell set the tone for Saint John's at 11:10 of the first, which gave them a 1-0 edge. Sam Dabrowski scored a goal in his first game back from injury, which tied the contest 1-1 at 12:31 of the opening period. The Pipers' final two scores of the contest occurred via the power play. Carson Simon gave Hamline a 2-1 lead at 12:49 of the first. Max Borst tied things at 2-2 for the Johnnies at 18:04 of the first, before Joe Collins' first tally of the season helped Hamline regain a 3-2 lead at 3:19 of the second.

Despite a slim 10-9 shots advantage in the third, the Johnnies registered four unanswered goals over the final 8:00 courtesy of Nick Michel, Max Worst, followed by empty netters from Jackson Sabo, and Harry Enebak that sealed a 6-3 victory.

All nine goals scored in the contest came with two assists, for a game total of 18. Brandon Bissett and Jordon Halverson each tallied a pair of assists for Hamline. Borst engineered the Johnnies with two goals and one assist. Spencer Rudrud tallied three assists, while Sabo had one goal and two assists. Saint John's out shot Hamline 42-24.

Kevin Lake made 36 saves in net for Hamline, while Bailey Huber stopped 21 shots between the pipes for Saint John's.

The Pipers will host Saint John's (Minn.) at Tria Rink on Saturday, January 21 at 7 p.m.
