Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

A Pair of Late-Period Goals Doom Pipers

DULUTH, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team were victim of special team goals at the tail end of the second and third periods, which proved to be enough in a 2-0 loss to St. Scholastica at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday night.

The Pipers fall to 9-8-1, 2-7-0 MIAC, while the first-place Saints remain undefeated in conference play with an 11-5-2, 8-0-1 MIAC record.

St. Scholastica 2, Hamline 0

Hamline held a slim 26-24 edge in shots, but it was St. Scholastica who capitalized with goals in the final minutes of the second and third periods. A "contact to the head" penalty called at 18:06 of the second period gave St. Scholastica an opportunity with the man advantage, and would prevail courtesy of Tyler Hinterser at 19:02 that made the score 1-0.

The two-minute slashing penalty on the Saints, and an empty net gave Hamline a 6-on-4 opportunity late in the game. Things weren't meant to be as Tristan Shewchuk's shorthanded empty-netter at 19:44 sealed a 2-0 victory for St. Scholastica.

A whopping 11 penalties were called in the contest.

Kevin Lake made 22 saves in net for Hamline, while his counterpart Jack Boosted stopped 26 shots for St. Scholastica.

The Pipers will host the Saints at Tria Rink tomorrow, Saturday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
