The Pipers fall to St. Olaf 3-2 in OT Despite an Incredible Third-Period Comeback

SAINT PAUL, MINN - The Hamline University men's hockey team welcomed St. Olaf to Tria Rink Friday night for a conference-battle. The Oles controlled most of the game with goals in the first and second period, but the Pipers came storming back to tie the game late in the third. St. Olaf's Cody Sherman had the game-winner at 3:36 in OT to win the game 3-2. 
 
Hamline falls to 3-4 on the season, 1-2 in MIAC play, while St. Olaf improves to 3-3-1, 1-1-1 in the conference.

The Oles started the scoring out tonight with an early power-play goal from Jonathan Young at 12:34 in the opening period. The first half of the second period was back-and-forth with both teams coming up empty on goal chances, then St. Olaf's Tyler Cooper extended their lead to 2-0 at 7:10 of the second period. Hamline had an exciting comeback in the third period to get the Piper fans up from their seats with two goals to tie the game and force a five-minute overtime. The Pipers junior forward Carson Simon scored a power-play goal early in the third period to shrink the deficit to one. Then senior defenseman Bronson Adams dished the puck to his defenseman partner Ryan Brandt who scored and tied the game at two with under two minutes remaining in the game. Hamline forced overtime but the Oles came out on top with the game-winner from Cody Sherman at 3:36 in OT to make the final score 3-2. 
 
The goalie for the Pipers Maxi Haselbacher made 31 saves while his counterpart for the Oles Lukas Haugen recorded 29. The face-off battle was won by St. Olaf tonight by the tally of 31-26. 
 
Hamline heads to Northfield, (Minn.) tomorrow at 5 p.m. to face St. Olaf with a chance at evening the season series.
