The Pipers Shutout the Cardinals 3-0 in the Home Opener

SAINT PAUL, MINN - The Hamline University men's hockey team welcomed Saint Mary's (Minn.) to Tria Rink for the home-opener Saturday night. The Pipers bounced back with a 3-0 victory after their loss last night to the Cardinals at their home. It was a fast-paced defensive battle to start, but the Pipers forwards Dallas Duckson and Brandon McNamara stepped up with two big goals to get the victory. 
 
Hamline improves to 2-2, 1-1 in MIAC play, while Saint Mary's (Minn.) falls to 1-3, 1-1 in conference.

Neither team put the puck in the net in the first period thanks to impeccable play by both teams' goalies keeping the score 0-0. The Pipers took the lead in the second period at 5:42 with a shorthanded goal from the junior forward, Dallas Duckson to make the score 1-0. Each team had many power play opportunities but none ending in a goal to keep the score 1-0 after the second period. Hamline closed out the Cardinals late in the game with a goal by junior forward Brandon McNamara at 1:32 in the third, shortly after Jackson Wille scored on an open-net goal to make the final score 3-0. 
 
Maximillian Haselbacher stood out for the Pipers tonight by recording a shutout against the Cardinals. He had 30 saves and held Saint Mary's to 0-for-5 on power plays. 
 
Each team did not record a power play goal with the Pipers going 0-for-5 and the Cardinals going 0-for-7 in tonight's contest. 
 
The Pipers next head to Ashland, Wisconsin to play Northland College on Friday, November 10th at 7 p.m.
