DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.—The Hamline University men's basketball team squared-off against Centre in the back end of their two-game swing in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels sealed a 69-68 victory over the Pipers off Chez Moore's game-winning free throw with 00:01 on the clock.
Hamline falls to 5-5, while Centre improves to 5-7.
Centre 69, Hamline 68
A whopping 10 lead changes occurred in the game. The Pipers registered a trio of three-point leads down the stretch, which proved to be their largest cushions of the final 20:00. That final occasion occurred with 1:16 remaining, when Sam Hoffman's layup put Hamline in front 68-65. It turned out to be the Pipers' final points of the game. Landen Hamilton answered with a three-pointer on Centre's next possession that knotted things at 68-68, before Moore knocked down one-of-two free throws with 00:01 left to seal a 69-88 win over Hamline.
Mick Wherley came through with 17 points and four blocks for Hamline, who had the upper hand with a 26-of-58 (.448) field goal percentage and 43 rebounds as a team. Austin Holt was within striking distance of a triple double with eight assists, eight points, and 11 rebounds. Hoffman and Cimperman each had 11 points for the Pipers.
Cade Stinnett led Centre with 24 points.
The Pipers will travel to Carleton on Wednesday, January 3 for a 7 p.m. game.
