Pipers Drop 4-2 Battle to Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team traveled to Augsburg for the back-end of a home-and-home series at Ed Saugestad Rink in Minneapolis on Saturday night. Hamline set the tone thanks to Carson Simon's power-play goal at 12:27 of the first, but Augsburg responded with four-straight goals that gave them enough cushion in a 4-2 victory.

The Pipers fall to 11-11-1, 4-10-0 MIAC, while the Auggies improve to 14-8-1, 10-4-0 MIAC.

Augsburg 4, Hamline 2

The game's first three goals occurred via the power play. Hamline struck first, thanks to Simon's tally at 12:27 of the first period. The Pipers would take that 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Auggies countered that with the second period's lone score that evened things at 1-1, thanks to Jarod Blackowiak at 5:02 the frame.

Blackowiak kept that momentum alive with his second power-play tally of the game 00:44 into the third period, which gave Augsburg the lead for good at 2-1. The Auggies grew that lead to 4-1 behind even strength scores from Daniel Chladek at 1:10 of the third, and Erik Palmqvist at 14:57. Simon closed the game's scoring with his second tally of the game at 15:38, which narrowed the score at 4-2.

Augsburg outshot Hamline 41-20. Kevin Lake made 37 saves in net for the Pipers, while Samuel Vyletelka stopped 18 shots in net for the Auggies.

Hamline will host Bethel at Tria Rink on Friday, February 17 at 7 p.m.
