MOORHEAD, MINN.—The 2022-23 regular season finale pitted the Hamline University men's basketball team at Concordia (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon. The Pipers either led or tied for the entire second half, but fell victim to a three-pointer in the final seconds courtesy of Matthew Johnson that propelled the Cobbers to a 68-65 victory.
Hamline, who finishes the regular season with a 14-11, 10-10 MIAC record, will be the No. 6 seed in the 2022-23 MIAC Tournament and will travel to No. 3 seed Saint Mary's (Minn.) for a first-round game on Tuesday, February 21 at 7 p.m. Concordia (Minn.) ends their season with an 11-14, 9-11 MIAC mark.
Concordia (Minn.) 68, Hamline 65
The Pipers either led or tied for all but 1:07 in the contest, but it was the Cobbers who prevailed at the end as Matthew Johnson's three-pointer from the top-right corner at the buzzer sealed a 68-65Â decision. Approximately :02 was added to the clock following the shot, but the Pipers couldn't counter that big play.
Bradley Cimperman, the only Piper who finished in double figures, registered a game-high 26 points for Hamline on 4-of-9 from the three-point line. Mick Wherley led the way with four steals, while Austin Holt came through with four assists and nine points.
Johnson's big shot capped an 18-point performance for the Cobbers.
