WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team came through with their fifth MIAC Tournament win in program history, as the No. 6 seed Pipers prevailed with a 90-84 (2OT) road upset of No. 3 Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Tuesday evening. The Pipers, who improve to 15-11, will advance to the MIAC Tournament Semifinal at top-seed Carleton on Friday, February 24 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals see their season end with a 16-10 mark.
Hamline 90, Saint Mary's (Minn.) 84 (2OT)
A whopping 11 lead changes occurred throughout regulation, eight of which were in a second half that ended with a 74-74 score. The Cardinals led for all but the final :04 of the first overtime, as Bradley Cimperman's layup knotted the game at 80-80. The second overtime was all Hamline, who ended the frame with a 9-0 run courtesy of Ebel's five points, and Cimperman's four down the stretch that sealed a 90-84 victory.
Cimperman led the way with 36 points on 12-of-27 shooting, followed by Austin Holt's 14th double double of the season that included 23 points and 15 boards. Holt also had five assists, while Sam Hoffman rounded out the double figure Pipers with 11 points.
Hamline pulled down a season-high 45 rebounds as a team.
Breyton Buysman posted 26 points for the Cardinals.
