SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team entered the stretch run of their season with a Friday-night home bout against Gustavus Adolphus at Tria Rink. The Pipers broke a 2-2 tie behind Bailey Sommers' goal at 4:09 of the third period en route to a 3-2 lead, before they held the Gusties' extra-attacking opportunity down the stretch to secure the win.

The game's first two goals occurred within :12 of each other. Nick Mountain's unassisted tally at 5:46 of the first frame gave Gustavus a 1-0 lead, before Quinn Chevers-Whorms countered that for Hamline at 5:58 to knot things at 1-1. The next two goals were within :09 apart, but this time it was Hamline who set the tone behind Scott Moyer's score at 15:39 of the second that made the score 2-1, before Micah Gernander's fluke shot from the blue line at 15:48 tied things at 2-2 for the Gusties.

The game was paused with 1:08 left in the second period due to a Gustavus injury.

Sommers converted Hamline's first shot of the third period off a feed from Sam Dabrowski at 4:09, which proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 score. The Gusties threatened late in the contest, which included a backhand shot that found the back of the net after time expired.

Hamline outshot Gustavus 32-22. Ryan Brandt also contributed an assist for the Pipers offense. Kevin Lake made 20 saves in net for Hamline, while Jackson Hjelle stopped 29 shots for Gustavus.

The Pipers will travel to Gustavus tomorrow, Friday, February 4 for a 7 p.m. game.
