Pipers Notch Two Wins in Orlando

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLA.—The Hamline University men's tennis team registered a pair of wins at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida on Wednesday as they took down Salve Regina 6-3, and Franciscan 8-1.

The Pipers improve to 6-3 with the sweep.

Hamline 6, Salve Regina 3

"Tyler Rousslang clinched it with a nail-biter at No. 3 singles with a successful serve and volley to close a tight third-set tiebreaker," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones.

The Pipers led 2-1 after doubles behind victories from Isaac Hultberg/Tyler Rousslang 8-1 at No. 1, and Zach Irrthum/Surprise Taylor 8-2 at No. 2.

The bottom of the singles lineup carried Hamline as Zach Irrthum came up with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at the No. 6 spot, while Surprise Taylor prevailed 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5. Tyler Rousslang registered the match-clincher with a close 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 battle at No. 3 singles. Isaac Hultberg notched a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

Hamline 8, Franciscan 1

"Satisfying win as we had lost to them 2–7 down here last year," said Jones. "Isaac Hultberg and Tyler Rousslang continue their stellar play with more wins in the singles and doubles court together."

The Pipers swept doubles, highlighted by Rousslang/Hultberg's 8-0 shutout at the No. 1 position. Sean Le/Sam Thompson won 8-3 at No. 2, while Surprise Taylor/Zach Irrthum took care of business 8-1 at No. 3.

The bottom six singles matches belonged to Hamline. Notching victories for the Pipers were Isaac Hultberg (6-2, 6-0) at No 2., Tyler Rousslang (6-2, 6-1) at No. 3, Sean Le (6-3, 6-3) at No. 4, Surprise Taylor (6-3, 6-2) at No. 5, and Zach Irrthum (6-4, 6-0) at No. 6.

The Pipers will play Scranton at the USTA National Campus in Orlando tomorrow, Thursday, March 16 at 6 p.m.
