RIVER FALLS, WIS.—After nearly two weeks away from competition, the Hamline University women's lacrosse team made the short trip across the state border to UW-River Falls on Thursday night. The Falcons led from start-to-finish in a 20-6 decision over the Pipers.
Hamline falls to 1-3, while UW-River Falls improves to 3-3.
UW-River Falls 20, Hamline 6
Despite trailing the entire game, the Pipers were able to net three-of-four shots in the opening frame to keep the score at 4-3 through 15:00 of play behind goals from Maddie Swanson, Taryn Leonard, and Maitland Luksan. Hamline couldn't keep up that pace as UW-River Falls outscored them 15-1 over the second and third quarters, which gave them enough cushion in a 20-6 win.
Leonard and Avery Wilson each netted a pair of goals for the Hamline offense.
Seven-of-20 Falcon goals came via the free position. Josie Johnson prevailed with a game-high seven goals, five ground balls, and four draw controls for UW-River Falls, who out shot Hamline 39-12.
Justine Case made nine saves in net for the Pipers, while Kayden Hersback stopped two shots for the Falcons.
The Pipers will travel to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, March 29 for a 7 p.m. game.
