SAINT PAUL, MINN.—Hamline University head football coach Chip Taylor was recently awarded the 2023 NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. Designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time NFL minority coaches, all 32 NFL clubs participate each year. As part of the fellowship, Taylor spent a week with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"First off, I would like to thank the Pittsburgh Steelers Organization, Coach Tomlin, Coach Williams, Coach Faulkner, Coach Curry, and the remainder of the staff for allowing me to come in and learn the Steeler way," said Taylor.
Launched in 2012, the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship accepts applicants that meet one of the following prerequisites:
- Former NFL player.
- Coaching experience at either the high school, college, and/or other football leagues level (CFL, XFL, etc.).
"I was able to learn a new way of doing things from a special teams perspective, offensive perspective and defensive perspective," said Taylor. "More importantly, I was able to sit down one-on-one with Coach Tomlin and learn about why he does things the way he does. Which was extremely valuable to me, but more importantly Hamline University."
