ST. BONIFACIUS, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team gave first-year head coach Tyler Oliver his first career victory with a 2-1 decision at Crown on Friday night.
The Pipers begin the 2023 season with a 1-0 record, while the Polars move to 0-1.

Crown set the tone on their second shot of the game in the 14th minute, when Ashton Hosler's goal made the score 1-0.
Freshman Ryder Tomlinson Sterud, who notched a game-high five shots in his collegiate debut, had a hand in each of Hamline's two unanswered goals to close the game. He assisted on freshman James Sondo's first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute that knotted the score at 1-1, before he netted one of his own off a feed from Drew Axel in the 51st minute that gave the Pipers a 2-1 advantage.
Hamline out shot Crown 16-8. Hosler tied for a game-high five shots for the Polars.
Pipers goalkeeper Luke Rimington made two saves in a complete-game victory, while counterpart Max Henderson stopped two shots for Crown.
Hamline will host Buena Vista at Pat Paterson Field on Sunday, September 3 at 12 p.m.
