SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team's 2023 MIAC opener pitted them against Augsburg at Paterson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Auggies handed the Pipers their first loss of the season by a 5-1 score.
Hamline falls to 4-1, 0-1 MIAC, while Augsburg stays unbeaten at 4-0-1, 1-0-0 MIAC.

All six goals scored in the contest occurred in the opening half. The first five goals came from the Auggies, who jumped to a 5-0 advantage in the 33rd minute led by a pair of tallies from Jeffrey Richter, and three assists from Mizael Harris. Jude Le closed the game's scoring with his first goal of the season in the 38th minute, which narrowed the Pipers' deficit to 5-1.
Kebba Janneh, Ceazar Daniell, and Owen Salzwedel also contributed goals for an Augsburg squad that out shot Hamline 18-3.
Auggies goalkeeper Oscar Herrera didn't record a save in a complete-game victory, while Luke Rimington stopped four shots in net for Hamline.
The Pipers will travel to Saint John's on Saturday, September 16 for a 1 p.m. game.
