Pipers Come From Behind to Salvage a 2-2 Draw Against Cobbers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team came back from a 2-0 deficit to salvage a 2-2 tie against Concordia (Minn.) at Pat Paterson Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pipers move to 4-2-2, 0-2-2 MIAC, while the Cobbers exit Tuesday with a 4-4-1, 1-2-1 MIAC record.

The Cobbers' second shot of the game in the fifth minute resulted in a 1-0 lead. Matthew Nemer skipped a pass from the right side to Gannon Brooks 10 feet in front of the net, where he possessed the ball mid-air with his right foot, spun to his right, and fired a shot to the back of the net.

Concordia's next shot resulted in a goal courtesy of Owen Gallo, who drove the ball down the left side of the field and beat the Hamline goalkeeper in the front of the net in the seventh minute to widen the score to 2-0.

The Pipers responded with a pair of unanswered goals, which began with Ryder Tomlinson Sterud's one-time shot from 20 yards out to the top-left corner of the net that narrowed his team's deficit to 2-1 in the 22nd minute. Jessie Juarez picked up an assist on the goal.

After being on the wrong side of a 13-5 shots margin in the opening half, Hamline weathered the storm with nine second-half shots. This included James Sondo's third goal of the season in the 65th minute that knotted the score at 2-2.

Concordia out shot Hamline 24-14.

Ethan Schauer made eight saves in net for the Pipers, while Jensen Waltz stopped four shots between the pipes for the Cobbers.

The Pipers will make the short trip to Bethel on Saturday, September 30 for a 1 p.m. game.
