MENOMONIE, WIS.—The Hamline University women's tennis team came through with their first victory of the 2023-24 season with a 7-2 decision at UW-Stout on Wednesday evening.
The Pipers improve to 1-2, while UW-Stout falls to 1-7.
"Huge 7–2 win at UW Stout under the lights tonight," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "After going down 1–2 in doubles, the women came back strong and swept all six singles positions. Congrats to Vanessa Pham for her first two collegiate wins, and special recognition to Chloe Reyes and Ashley Pitzen, who won a pair of nail-biting 7–5, 7–5 decisions at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. That is our first win against UW Stout in years, and it shows that our Pipers are on the right track!"

The 2-1 deficit didn't faze a Hamline squad who came from behind and swept all six singles matches. Chloe Reyes and Ashley Pitzen prevailed with 7-5, 7-5 wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.
The bottom four singles matches were convincing victories for the Pipers, led by Pham's 6-0, 6-1 domination at No. 6. Christine Muller was victorious at No. 3 by a 6-2, 6-1 score, while Lynn Nguyen prevailed at No. 4 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Elanna Kohner picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Pipers will host UW-River Falls at Washington Tech School in St. Paul on Sunday, October 1 at 10 a.m.
