Pipers Come Up Empty at Norse

DECORAH, IOWA.—The Hamline University women's soccer team's first road boat of 2023 pitted them 155 miles south to Luther College on Wednesday night. The Pipers couldn't maintain the offensive prowess they had in their opening two games of the season, as they dropped to a 2-0 decision to the Norse.

Hamline falls to 1-2, while Luther's first win of the season gives them a 1-0-2 record.

Luther 2, Hamline 0

All of the Pipers shots occurred in the second half, where they managed to hold a 6-4 advantage in that category over the final 45:00. It wasn't enough arsenal, as the Norse registered a goal in the first and second halves behind Lauren Linkletter's tally in the 25th minute, and Cassiah James' score in the 59th minute en route to a 2-0 victory.

Luther, who out shot Hamline 9-6, was assessed the game's only yellow card in the 62nd minute courtesy of Maggie Haller.

Isabella Jensen made two saves in net for the Pipers. Luther goalkeeper Irelyn Baumberger stopped two shots over the first 43:56 of play, before Ken Vavrichek didn't record a save in the final 46:04.

The Pipers will stay on the road to face UW-Stevens Point on Friday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m.
