STEVENS POINT, WIS.—The Hamline University women's soccer team made the four-hour trip east to UW-Stevens Point for a Friday-afternoon bout, where they dropped a 1-0 decision.
The Pipers fall to 1-3, while the Pointers move to 1-3 with their first win of the season.
UW-Stevens Point 1, Hamline 0
This evenly fought match was highlighted by UW-Stevens Point's narrow 16-15 shots advantage, but it was Hamline who had the slight 6-5 edge in that category throughout the second half. It didn't reflect the score column, as Cass Klitzke gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead off a feed from Gabby Dunn in the 81st minute.
Maya Dempsey registered a game-high five shots for the Pipers.
Hamline goalkeeper Isabella Jensen had eight saves in a complete-game effort, while Savannah Reed stopped seven shots in a shutout win between the pipes for UW-Stevens Point.
The Pipers will open MIAC play on Tuesday, September 12 against Augsburg at Pat Paterson Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
