Ebel's Career Afternoon Highlights Pipers Big Home Win Over Gusties

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—Sophomore Brendan Ebel played the game of his life, as his 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting, five assists, and two steals propelled the Hamline University men's basketball team to an 84-77 victory over Gustavus Adolphus at Hutton Arena on Saturday afternoon. Ebel's performance highlighted a Pipers squad that achieved a season-high .558 (29-of-52) field goal percentage, 24 assists, and a .529 (9-of-17) three-point percentage.

The Pipers improve to 8-6, 6-3 MIAC, which includes a 6-1 mark at Hutton Arena. The Gusties fall to 8-6, 7-2 MIAC.

Gustavus jumped to a 16-4 lead behind a well-balanced attack that saw seven different players contribute points. This ignited a Hamline squad that went on a 26-13 run that started with Sam Bradley's three-pointer with 14:57 left in the first half, and ended with Dominic Dosmann's layup with 4:02 on the clock that gave them their first lead of the game at 30-29.

The remainder of the first half resulted in two more lead changes as Gustavus responded with a 5-0 run that put them back in front 34-30 with 2:48 left in the opening half. The Pipers came back with a 7-3 run to close the half, and didn't trail again after Bradley Cimperman's two made free throws with 1:50 remaining made the score 35-35 before both teams went into intermission 37-37.

The final 20:00 saw Hamline shoot lights out with a .667 (16-of-24) field goal percentage, which consisted of a 6-of-8 mark from the three-point line. Gustavus cut their deficit to two points at 63-61 with 5:31 remaining in the game, but Hamline converted eight free throws down the stretch that increased their cushion in an 84-77 win.

The Pipers' bench notched 38 points, led by Dominic Dosmann's 15 and Daniel McCarrell's 12. Austin Holt notched a team-leading eight assists, eight rebounds, and three steals to go with 14 points. McCarrell also had six assists, while Bradley Cimperman rounded out the five Pipers in double figures with 11 points.

Hamline will return to action on Monday, January 15, when they'll make the short trip to Macalester for a 7:45 p.m. game.
