Pipers Fall to Oles in Second Annual Oliver Bowl

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision at defending national champion St. Olaf for the Second Annual Oliver Bowl on Saturday afternoon. Justin Oliver, the twin brother of Hamline head men's soccer coach Tyler Oliver, is in his second season as St. Olaf head men's socccer coach.

The Pipers fall to 11-3-0, 3-3-0 MIAC, while the Oles improve to 9-4-1, 5-0-0 MIAC.

Despite a scoreless first half, no rhythm was found by the Pipers, who managed just two shots against 26 from the Oles. Among the 13 second-half shots from the Oles were goals from Shea Bechtel on the penalty kick in the 58th minute, and Abdirasek Bulale in the 66th minute that made the score 2-0. Sandwiched between St. Olaf's four tallies was Jessie Juarez's fourth of the season on the penalty kick in the 74th minute that narrowed the score to 2-1.

St. Olaf put the match to bed thanks to Ben Beckman in the 74th minute, and Lucas Montera in the 78th minute that widened the margin to 4-1.

Peter Forseth recorded one save in net for St. Olaf, while Hamline goalkeeper Maxim Henderson stopped five shots over 90:00.

The Pipers will host St. Scholastica at Pat Paterson Field on Tuesday, October 15 at 4 p.m.
