Pipers Shutout Cobbers 3-0, Achieve First Double-Digit Win Season in Seven Years

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team picked up their sixth shutout of 2024, and eclipsed double-digit wins in a season for the first time in seven years following their 3-0 road victory at Concordia (Minn.) on Wednesday afternoon. Their six shutouts are the most since they achieved seven clean sheets in 2017.

The Pipers move to 10-2, 2-2 MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 1-9, 0-4 MIAC.

Hamline 3, Concordia 0

First-year Ricky Kwabena Yawson continued to wreak havoc in the eighth minute, when the ball found his foot off a Drew Axel throw in that bounced off Rigoberto Arellano's head in Concordia territory. In the middle of traffic, Kwabena Yawson dished a pass to Cris Corrales to the right side of the box, where he fired a shot to the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

The Pipers widened their cushion to 2-0 courtesy of Rigoberto Arellano in the 78th minute, when he missed a penalty shot and put home the one-time rebound.

Kwabena Yawson put the nail in the coffin just 1:48 later, when he took a pass from Jonathan Bayer from midfield, split the defense 20 yards in front of the net, and let a shot go to widen Hamline's lead to 3-0.

The Pipers out shot the Cobbers 9-7, but each team were even with six shots on goal apiece. Kwabena Yawson picked up a three-point outing for the Hamline offense. Both teams combined for 29 fouls and three yellow cards.

Maxim Henderson made six saves in his third complete-game shutout of the season in net for the Pipers, while his counterpart Jensen Waltz stopped three shots for the Cobbers.

Hamline will host Bethel at Pat Paterson Field on Saturday, October 5 at 3:30 p.m.
