Pipers Record Seventh Shutout of Season With 3-0 Victory Over Bethel

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team posted their seventh clean sheet of the season with a 3-0 victory over Bethel at Pat Paterson Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Pipers, who last achieved seven shutouts in 2017, improve to 11-2, 3-2 MIAC, while the Royals fall to 6-6, 2-3 MIAC.

Bethel finished the match with a 19-15 shots advantage, which included an 11-7 edge after a scoreless first half.

Ricky Kwabena Yawson broke the scoreless tie in the 55th minute with his ninth goal of the season off a feed from Wylie Wright and Rigoberto Arellano, which made the score 1-0.

The Pipers widened their cushion further within the final 10 minutes of the match. They put the match out of reach with Clarence Weah's penalty kick tally in the 83rd minute that pushed the score to 2-0. Weah assisted on Kwabena Yawson's 10th goal of the season, and second of the match in the 89th minute to widen the margin to 3-0.

Kwabena Yawson had a game-high nine shots, and six shots on goal in addition to his two goals for four points.

Maxim Henderson recorded his fourth complete-game shutout of the season in net with six saves for the Pipers, while his counterpart Griffin Blokker stopped four shots for the Royals.

Hamline will return to action on Saturday, October 12 for the Second Annual Oliver Bowl at St. Olaf. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
