SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's tennis team opened their 2024-25 season with a 6-1 loss to UW-La Crosse at the Holt Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Pipers fall to 0-1, while the Eagles improve to 1-1.
"Really close battle for our men today," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "Great learning experience for my young guys. We were a couple points away from winning every doubles match, and congrats to Cooper Johnson and especially Brendon Sebring. Each won their first college matches. Brendon showed tremendous grit in a nailbiter at six singles, fighting off three points before vanquishing his opponent."
Cooper Johnson/Tyler Rousslang prevailed with a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo also took their singles matches to an extra set as Rousslang dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 decision at No 1, while Johnson was victim of a 6-2, 3-6. 10-4 defeat at No. 2.
Brendon Sebring gave Hamline their lone win with a 6-2, 4-6 13-11 decision at No. 6 singles.
The Pipers will host UW-Stevens Point at Holt Courts on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m.
