SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University women's volleyball team fell to UW-Stout 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16) in their final home match of 2024 at Hutton Arena on Wednesday night.
The Pipers fall to 9-18, while the Blue Devils improve to 13-11.
UW-Stout 3, Hamline 1 (15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16)
In the first set, Hamline secured a 25-15 victory over Stout.
Lauren Wilborn and
Riley Melby each contributed two kills, with
Grace Bathurst adding a service ace. The Blue Devils were hindered by errors, totaling five on the attack and two from the service line, while the Pipers capitalized with three aces.
In the second set, Stout edged out a narrow 25-23 victory. The Pipers'
Grace Bathurst and
Riley Melby each contributed multiple kills, while
Cameryn Sand provided key assists. Stout capitalized on several service errors from Hamline and benefited from strong performances by Emma Barton and Kennedy Barrett, who both registered kills. The set saw a back-and-forth battle with frequent lead changes, highlighted by service aces from both teams.
In the third set, the Blue Devils secured a 25-18 victory over the Pipers, with consistent offensive contributions led by Brooke McCune, who registered multiple kills. Kennedy Barrett played a pivotal role for Stout, delivering several assists and a service ace. Hamline's effort featured notable performances from
Lindsay Eckelman and
Riley Melby, who each contributed key kills, but service errors and attack errors hindered their momentum.
In the fourth set, the Blue Devils prevailed with a 25-16 win, thanks to a strong performance by Brooke McCune, who contributed multiple kills. Stout capitalized on the Pipers' errors, including five service errors. McCune and Emma Barton were key offensive players, while Kennedy Barrett facilitated with numerous assists, leading the Blue Devils to secure the set and match victory.
Jenna Rubbelke stood out for the Hamline with a team-high 25 digs, making her a key defensive player.
Lindsay Eckelman contributed significantly with 11.0 points, aided by her seven kills and a hitting percentage of 0.267.
Kennedy Tutak also impressed with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of 0.24, adding 10.0 points to the team's efforts.
Cameryn Sand led in assists, providing 24 out of 70 attempts, showcasing her pivotal role in setting up offensive plays.
Terrah Moshier was a key defensive asset for Stout with 18 digs. Kennedy Barrett contributed significantly as a setter, with 26 assists and a .429 hitting percentage. Brooke McCune led the Blue Devils in points with 15 and had an efficient attack with 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
The Pipers will finish their 2024 season at St. Scholastica on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m.
