DULUTH, MINN.—A big second half propelled the Hamline University men's basketball team to an 84-68 road victory over St. Scholastica on Wednesday evening.
The Pipers improve to 15-9, 13-6 MIAC, while the Saints fall to 3-21, 2-17 MIAC.
Hamline 84, St. Scholastica 68
After a first half that resulted in nine lead changes and a 38-37 halftime lead for St. Scholastica, the Pipers would shoot 17-of-28 (.607) and 6-of-9 (.667) from beyond the arch over the final 20:00. Hamline's first basket of the second half, a Mick Wherley three-pointer with 19:18 on the clock, put them in the driver's seat for good at 40-38. The Pipers outscored the Saints 47-30 in the second half en route to an 84-68 win.
Five Pipers finished in double figures, led by Daniel McCarrell's 18 points and three assists. Brendan Ebel had 17 points and three assists, while Bradley Cimperman notched 14 points, three assists, and five rebounds. Austin Holt had a double double 10 points and 11 rebounds to go with four assists. Raoul Vaidya came off the bench with 10 points for Hamline; who shot .552 (32-of-58) from the floor, .478 (11-of-23) from beyond the arch, and notched 18 assists.
Tanner Thomson led the Saints with 12 points.
The Pipers will conclude their 2023-24 regular season at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, February 17 at 3 p.m.
