BLAINE, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team powered their way back from a 5-0 deficit late in the second period at Bethel on Friday evening. The Royals, who were outscored 5-1 over the final 26:00 of play, hung onto a 6-5 victory over the Pipers.
Hamline falls to 7-15-2, 3-11-1 MIAC, while Bethel improves to 16-5-3, 10-3-2 MIAC.

The comeback bid consisted of goals from Joe Collins at 15:44 of the second, Jackson Wille at 2:11 of the third, Ryan Brandt on the power play at 4:23 of the third, and Derek Becklin at 6:16 of the third period that shrunk Hamline's deficit to 5-4. This ignited a Bethel squad that answered less than a minute later at 7:19 of the third period, when Sam Wilhite pushed the score to 6-4. Wille's second goal of the game at 17:51 of the third frame got the Pipers within one goal again at 6-5, where it stayed final.
Hamline out shot Bethel 31-28, which included a 16-5 advantage in the third period.
Wille led the Piper offense with two goals and one assist. Derek Becklin registered one goal and one assist, while Brandon McNamara notched two assists.
Wilhite and Tyler Braccini each had two goals for Bethel
Trevor Wong made 22 saves in net for the Pipers, while Austin Ryman tallied 26 stops for Bethel.
Hamline will conclude the 2023-24 season against Bethel at TRIA Rink on Saturday, February 17 at 5 p.m.
