The Pipers Fall 5-2 on Senior Night to the Gusties and Split The Season Series

SAINT PAUL, MINN - The Hamline University men's hockey team welcomed Gustavus Adolphus for a Saturday night conference matchup. The Gusties look to even up the season series needing a win on the road. The Gusties got two big goals in the second period to take the lead heading into the final frame. Artem Korolev and Jac Triemert each tally two points to help Gustavus past the Pipers. Gustavus takes the away victory over the Pipers by the score of 5-2. 
 
Hamline falls to 7-12-2, 3-8-1 in MIAC play, while Gustavus Adolphus improves to 8-11-2, 3-8-1 in conference.

The first period of this game was pretty even sided with both teams trading goals to make the score 1-1 heading into the first intermission. The Gusties got the scoring started with a goal from Jac Triemert at 16:48 to take the lead making the score 1-0. Then to wrap up the period and even the score with 23 seconds remaining, the Pipers got a goal from forward Jackson Wille assisted by Will Matzke and Brandon McNamara tying the game at 1-1. Hamline's goalie Maximillian Haselbacher recorded 14 saves in the opening frame while his counterpart Jackson Hjelle for the Gusties had 15. Each team went 0 for 1 on the power play. The team's head into the second period with an intense 1-1 tie game. 
 
Gustavus stole the show on the Pipers home ice in the second period scoring two goals giving them the 3-1 lead. At 11:25 Marc Fletemeyer for the Gusties scored to break the tie making the score 2-1. Shortly after at 9:13 Connor Mahony scored to extend the lead to two. Both teams remain scoreless on power plays this evening with each team going 0 for 3. Gustavus has outshot the Pipers 32 to 26 with 17 of those for the Gusties coming in the second period. Gustavus keeps the lead by the score of 3-1 heading into the final intermission. 
 
The Pipers head into the period trailing the Gusties by two needing a third period comeback. At 10:46 center McNamara scored to shrink the deficit to one with the assists coming from Bailey Sommers and Nikolia Dulak. At 6:37 Gustavus answers with another goal to make the score 4-2. Each goalie recorded 35 saves tonight. The Gusties tack on an empty net goal to make the final score 5-2. 
 
Hamline next plays at Augsburg Friday, February 9th at 7 p.m.
