Big Second Half Pushes Knights Past Hamline

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team hosted Carleton at Hutton Arena on Wednesday night. The second half saw the Knights shoot lights out with a 17-of-28 (.607) field goal percentage, and an 11-of-12 (.917) clip from the free throw line, which powered them to a 79-69 victory over the Pipers.

Hamline falls to 13-9, 11-6 MIAC, while Carleton moves to 14-8, 11-6 MIAC.

Six of the game's seven lead changes occurred in an opening half that saw Hamline shoot 13-of-24 (.541) from the field, which included a 3-of-6 (.500) mark from deep. Two those three-point baskets occurred in the final minutes of the frame courtesy of Sam Hoffman and Austin Holt that gave the Pipers a 39-32 halftime edge.

Matt Banovetz engineered a Carleton 15-5 run that kicked off the second half. He scored the last five points of that run off a three-pointer, and layup that put his team in the driver's seat for good at 47-44 with 15:03 remaining in the second. The Knights took their largest lead of the off a pair of Luke Harris free throws that made the score 77-60 with 00:30 on the clock, where Hamline finished with a 9-2 run that cut the final score to 79-69.

Daniel McCarrell paced Hamline with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Austin Holt, who led the team with four assists, added another double double to his resume with 13 points and 10 boards. Raoul Vaidya added 11 points off the bench.

The Knights shot .577 (30-of-52) from the field, the highest by a Hamline opponent this season. The Pipers finished with a .435 (27-of-62) field goal percentage.

Hamline will host Macalester for Senior Day on Saturday, February 10 at 3 p.m.
