Big Fourth Quarter Powers Pipers Past Eagles 10-9

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team's 3-0 run in the fourth quarter that ended with Maitland Luksan's game-winning free-position goal with 1:19 remaining secured them a 10-9 road victory at Northwestern (Minn.) on Thursday night.

The Pipers improve to 2-1, while the Eagles fall to 0-1.

Three lead changes occurred in the contest, as each team jumped to a two-goal advantage at some point. The latest two-goal cushion was courtesy of Northwestern (Minn.), who took a 9-7 score into the fourth quarter. 

The final 15:00 of the game resulted in a 6-2 shots advantage for Hamline. It turned into goals from Avery Wilson with 13:46 on the clock, Courtney Parker with 4:18 remaining, and Luksan on the free position with 1:19 left that gave the Pipers a 10-9 victory.

Parker notched a team-leading four goals and four caused turnovers for a Hamline squad that accumulated 23 shots against Northwestern's 24. Wilson had two goals and two assists, while Maddie Swanson registered two goals. Kendra Haselow led the way with six draw controls and four ground balls. Sophia Warner had a solid performance that included four ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

Lauren Pear paced the Eagles with four goals and one assist. 

Hamline will face UW-Stevens Point at the University of Minnesota Dome on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
