SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-10 decision to defending MLC Women's Tournament Champion Lake Forest at Klas Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Pipers fall to 5-6, 0-2 MLC, while the Foresters improve to 11-2, 3-0 MLC.
Lake Forest 17, Hamline 10
Lake Forest never trailed in the contest, but that didn't come without a first quarter that ended in a 3-3 tie behind goals from Nicole Phillips, Aoi Suzuki, and Maitland Luksan (Player Down, Free Position). The up-and-down first quarter saw the Pipers have an upper hand in draw controls 4-2.
This ignited a Lake Forest squad that responded with an 11-1 run. Ryleigh Nelson engineered that run with four goals, while Jenna Doctor contributed three that gave the Foresters a 14-5 advantage, which was enough cushion in a 17-10 victory.
Luksan notched three goals (all free position) and one assist for the Pipers, who were out shot by the Foresters 41-22. Nicole Phillips and Avery Wilson each had two goals. Hamline got a team-leading five draw controls from Maddie Swanson, while Ema Rehder tallied three caused turnovers.
Doctor had six goals and one assist for Lake Forest, followed by five goals and six assists from Nelson.
Justine Case made 13 saves in net for Hamline, while her counterpart Cecelia Adams stopped seven shots for Lake Forest.
The Pipers will face MSOE on the road tomorrow, Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
