FARGO, ND.—The Hamline University men's tennis team prevailed with a 5-4 victory at Concordia (Minn.) on Friday afternoon.
"Terrific clinching win in singles for junior captain, Surprise Taylor," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "The men's match was a real nail biter."
The Pipers improve to 12-7, 3-6 MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 3-14, 1-8 MIAC.
Hamline 5, Concordia 4
The doubles flight resulted in a 2-1 Hamline lead behind victories from Isaac Hultberg/Rumeal Setts 8-5 at No. 1, and Tyler Rousslang/Elijah Krause 8-2 at No. 2.
Four singles matches went to an extra set, three of those were won by Concordia.
Both ends of the Pipers' singles lineup secured victories, led by a nail-biting 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 win from Setts in an extra set at the No. 1 spot. The No. 6 position saw Surprise Taylor secure a 6-3, 7-6 match-clinching win, while Keegan Terrone took care of business 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
The Pipers will conclude their 2023-24 season at Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday, April 23 at 3 p.m.
