Pipers Secure MLC Tournament Berth With Victory Over Eagles

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's lacrosse team secured a spot in the 2024 Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament with a 13-10 victory over Northwestern (Minn.) in their final home game of the season at Klas Field on Saturday afternoon. 

The No. 4 seed Pipers, who improve to 8-8, 2-3 MLC, will travel to No. 1 seed Saint Benedict in an MLC Semifinal Match on Wednesday, May 1. The Eagles end their final season as a program with a 6-10, 1-5 MLC record.

Hamline 13, Northwestern 10

Two lead changes and four tied scores occurred throughout the match. Both teams were neck-and-neck through the early stages of the fourth quarter, as the score read 7-7 with 12:53 remaining in the contest. 

The Pipers converted five of their next seven shots. It resulted in a 5-1 run that put gave Hamline their largest lead of the contest at 12-8 with 4:53 left in the contest, which provoked a Northwestern timeout. 

The timeout paid dividends for the Eagles as Abby Scheel narrowed the score to 12-9 just :24 later with 4:29 on the clock. Each team traded a goal within the game's final minutes to put the score at 13-10.

Avery Wilson paced Hamline with three goals and one assist, while Courtney Parker also had three goals. Lily Uhl finished with two goals and an assist. Maitland Luksan and Analisa Aragon each had one goal and two assists for the Pipers, who out shot the Eagles 32-22.

Hamline finished with 12 draw controls, six belonged to Maddie Swanson, who also had three ground balls and one goal. Sophia Warner had a team-high three caused turnovers, while Nicole Phillips led the ground ball efforts with five along with one goal and three draw controls.

Ainsley Thompson paced Northwestern with four goals.

Pipers goalie Justine Case made seven saves. Daisy Koffler stopped 11 shots in net for the Eagles.

Hamline will conclude the 2024 regular season as UW-Stout on Monday, April 29 at 5 p.m.
