Pipers Achieve First Double-Digit Win Season in 18 Years With 7-2 Thumping of Cardinals

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's tennis team achieved a milestone in their 7-2 victory over Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Sunday afternoon, as they eclipsed 10 wins for the first time since 2005-06. They notched an 18-7 record that season.

The Pipers improve to 10-5, 2-5 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 5-11, 0-6 MIAC.

"Great win today against a tough rival," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "It was nice to come through with five out of six on the singles court. Shout out to Elijah (Krause and Elden (Lee), who dominated at No. 2 doubles in their first official match together."

Hamline 7, Saint Mary's 2

The top two doubles matches belonged to Hamline as Rumeal Setts/Isaac Hultberg took care of business with an 8-6 score at No. 1, while Elijah Krause/Elden Lee dominated 8-1 at No. 2

No. 1 singles went to an extra set, where Setts locked a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 decision, while Hultberg was dominate at No. 2 with a 7-5, 6-1 win. Tyler Rousslang continued to be a solid No. 3 player with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. A nail biter was had at No. 5 singles courtesy of Surprise Taylor, who finished on top 7-5, 5-7, 1-0. Keegan Terrone iced the match at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 victory.

Hamline will play a pair of matches on Thursday, April 11 at the William Zane Johnson Tennis Complex on the campus of Northwestern (Minn.). They'll face Northwestern at 1 p.m., and Martin Luther at 4 p.m.
