Pipers Open 2024 With Back-to-Back Shutouts With 6-0 Thumping of Lumberjacks

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—For the first time since 2014, the Hamline University men's soccer team opened their season with back-to-back shutouts with a 6-0 thumping of Northland at Pat Paterson Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Pipers improve to 2-0, while the Lumberjacks kick off their season 0-1.

Hamline 6, Northland 0

Hamline, who out shot Northland 41-4, peppered the most shots in a game since September 23, 2010, when they fired 44 in a 6-1 victory over Cornell at Pat Paterson Field.

Most of the Pipers' damage was done in the first half, where they took a 5-0 lead behind goals from Rigoberto Arellano in the 13th minute, Cris Corrales in the 14th, back-to-back tallies from Ryder Tomlinson Sterud in the 24th and 33rd, and Sylvester Doe in the 34th.

Augustine Feika closed the game's scoring with a goal in the 69th minute, which pushed the margin to 5-0.

The tallies from Corrales, Sylvester Doe, and Feika were each the first of their collegiate careers.

Tomlinson Sterud's two goals paced the Pipers offense while Arellano had one goal and one assist. Jessie Juarez dished a pair of assists, followed by one each from Jarod Timlin and Jonathan Bayer.

Bodean Gaustad stopped one shot in his first collegiate complete-game shutout in net for Hamline, while Rodrigo Chavez made 15 saves over 90:00 for Northland.

The Pipers will travel to Coe on Wednesday, September 4. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
