Men's Soccer Improves to 3-0 Behind Timlin's Game-Winning Header at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.—Underclassmen carried the Hamline University men's soccer team in their road bout at Coe on Wednesday evening, as all three goals came from freshmen. Jarod Timlin led the way with two goals, including a game-winning header created off a corner kick in the 76th minute that powered the Pipers to a 3-2 victory over the Kohawks.

Hamline stays unbeaten at 3-0, while Coe falls to 1-1-1.

Time wasn't wasted by the Kohawks as Ian Kearney gave them a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, when he took a long pass from goalkeeper Jr. Holland and fired a shot from 20 yards out.

The Pipers responded with back-to-back goals. First in the 26th minute, when Ricky Kwabena Yawson possessed the ball off a Jessie Juarez throw in and took it all the way to the goal line on the goalkeeper's left. Timlin converted a one-time shot in front of the net off Kwabena Yawson's pass, which knotted the score 1-1 and went down as his first collegiate goal.

Hamline capitalized on a Coe turnover at midfield in the 38th minute, when the ball trickled off multiple individuals before it found Augustine Feika's foot. He took the ball down the right side of the field before he found Kwabena Yawson 20 yards in front of the goal. Kwabena Yawson took a couple steps around a defender, and converted his first collegiate goal that gave the Pipers a 2-1 lead.

Ian Kearney notched his third point of the game in the 72nd minute, when he assisted on Dylan Pagel's goal that tied the game 2-2. It took Hamline just four minutes to respond, thanks to a corner kick in the 76th minute. Jessie Juarez fired a short pass from the corner to Ryder Tomlinson Sterud. Timlin converted a header off Tomlinson Sterud's pass to give Hamline a 3-2 lead.

The shots were even at 14 a piece. Timlin's two-goal outing came off a team-leading four shots. Kwabena Yawson, who fired three shots, finished with one goal and one assist. Feika and Tomlinson Sterud each recorded an assist for the Pipers.

Five infractions were called in the contest, which included a yellow and red card on Jessie Juarez.

Maxim Henderson made five saves in net for Hamline, while Jr. Holland also stopped five shots between the pipes for Coe.

Hamline will host Minnesota Morris at Pat Paterson Field on Friday, September 6 at 3 p.m.
