Men's Soccer Improves to 7-0, Their Best Start in Program History Following Victory Over Rams

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—For the first time in program history, the Hamline University men's soccer team is off to a 7-0 start following their 4-2 road victory at North Central (Minn.) on Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams fall to 1-2 overall.

Hamline 4, North Central (Minn.) 2

The Pipers struck first in the 30th minute, when Jarod Timlin intercepted a pass at the top-right corner of North Central's box. Timlin found Ricky Kwabena Yawson 10 yards in front of the net all alone. Kwabena Yawson took a couple steps before he fired an uncontested shot to give Hamline a 1-0 lead.

North Central fired just two shots in the opening half. The second one knotted the score at 1-1 in the 36th minute courtesy of Sam Saye. The momentum from that goal carried over to the second half, as Alvin Wlejleh gave North Central a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute.

This ignited a Pipers squad who out-shot North Central 12-3 from that point forward. Jessie Juarez netted back-to-back tallies in the 66th and 74th minutes to give Hamline a 3-2 lead, his first two of the season. Rigoberto Arellano assisted on Juarez's second goal.

The game's exclamation point occurred in the 87th minute, when Kwabena Yawson drove the ball down the left side of the field to 15 yards away from the net. Ryder Tomlinson Sterud took Kwabena Yawson's pass on the run 15 yards square to the net, where he slammed the breaks to get around a defender, and registered a goal to widen the Pipers' lead to 4-2.

Hamline out-shot North Central 24-7. Jessie Juarez led the Pipers with a team-leading two goals and five shots. Kwabena Yawson was next with one goal, one assist, and four shots. Tomlinson Sterud netted his fifth goal of the season. Timlin and Arellano each had assists for Hamline.

Bodean Gaustad made two saves in a complete-game effort in net for the Pipers, while his counterpart Peyton Carselowey stopped eight shots between the pipes for the Rams.

Five infractions were assessed in the contest, including a red card on North Central in the final minute.

Hamline will open MIAC play at Augsburg on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m.
