Pipers Equal Last Season's Win Total of Eight Following 4-1 Drubbing of Lawrence

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team has equaled last season's win total of eight following a 4-1 decision over Lawrence at Pat Paterson Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Pipers move to 8-1, while the Vikings fall to 1-5-2.

Hamline 4, Lawrence 1

All three of Lawrence's first-half shots occurred over the first 25:00 before Hamline responded with a 9-0 advantage to close the frame. It resulted in Jessie Juarez's penalty-kick goal in the 27th minute that gave the Pipers a 1-0 lead, and a tally from Ryder Tomlinson Sterud off a feed from Ricky Kwabena Yawson in the 31st minute that widened the margin to 2-0.

The first shot of the second half found the back of the net courtesy of Lawrence's Daito Sho in the 48th minute, which narrowed their deficit to 2-1.

This ignited a Hamline squad that outshot Lawrence 16-1 from that point forward. It included Kwabena Yawson's sixth goal of the season in the 59th minute that made it 3-1, and Wylie Wright's first collegiate tally in the game's final minute that gave the Pipers a 4-1 cushion.

Hamline outshot Lawrence 28-5. Tomlinson Sterud and Kwabena Yawson each had one goal, one assist, and six shots for the Pipers.

Bodean Gaustad made two saves over the first 45:00 in net for Hamline. Ethan Schauer, who stopped one shot, and Durham Welch split time in goal in the second half.

Ethan Uribe stopped four shots between the pipes for Lawrence in the first half, before Nason Lancina came through with 10 stops in the second half.

The Pipers will resume their match against Saint John's (Minn.) at Pat Paterson Field on either Tuesday, September 24 at 4 p.m., or Wednesday, September 25 at 1 p.m.
